Day trip from Izmir to Foça with a private driver

Journey time, break plan and tips for making the most of a day in Foça.

Foça is a small coastal district on the Aegean shore, to the north-west of Izmir. Its distance from the city centre strikes an ideal balance for a day trip: far enough to leave the city noise behind, and close enough to return the same day. When you go with a chauffeur, the burden of the road is lifted and you can enjoy the scenery and conversation on the way.

Journey time and distance

The distance from Izmir to Foça is approximately 70 km, and the journey takes approximately 60–75 minutes. On summer weekends, in holiday periods and in morning and evening traffic, the journey can take longer. For this reason it is right to treat the figures as an estimate and to add a buffer to the plan. The departure time will also vary depending on which district of Izmir you are starting from.

What makes a private car easier?

You can reach Foça by public transport, but transfers and waiting time can take up a significant part of your trip. With a chauffeur you decide the departure time, stay at the seaside as long as you like and, if you wish, stop somewhere else on the way back. Door-to-door travel is an added comfort for families with children, older passengers and groups with luggage. The driver is not a guide; they handle the transport and the flow of the programme. If you would like guidance on the history of the area, you can arrange a licensed guide separately.

Sample flow for the day

The flow below is just one idea; you can change the times and stops to suit yourself:

  1. Leave Izmir at a reasonable hour in the morning.
  2. Arrive in Foça and walk around the harbour.
  3. Breakfast or a coffee break.
  4. Walk along the seafront, take photos and rest briefly.
  5. Choose a place in central Foça for lunch.
  6. In the afternoon, sit by the sea or explore the surrounding coves.
  7. Return to Izmir towards sunset.

Some people prefer to see Foça early in the morning and leave before the crowds build up before noon; others go in the afternoon to catch the sunset. The season should guide you: in summer the morning and evening hours are cooler, while in spring and autumn the middle of the day is more balanced.

What to watch for when planning

  • Peak season: On summer weekends the harbour and seafront can get crowded; discuss the drop-off point with the driver beforehand.
  • Weather: Wind and temperature affect how comfortable the trip is; bring a light jacket and sun protection.
  • Food and accommodation: Business opening hours vary by season, so confirm them before your visit.
  • Places to visit: For a current list of historic and tourist sites, see the Izmir Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism page.
  • Waiting time: The driver waits with the vehicle; the scope and extra-time conditions are written in the quote.

In Foça, most of the time goes on walking by the sea, eating and resting, so the pace of the trip is slow. In busy seasons there may be a short wait at the drop-off and pick-up point. Agreeing a clear meeting point and time with the driver on the seafront is useful on group trips where everyone has scattered. If you stay longer than planned, a message to the driver is enough; the extra-time conditions are written in the quote.

Plan for the return journey as well. If you want to stay until sunset, allow for the chance of meeting the evening traffic on the way back. If you have an early programme the next morning, it is wise to leave earlier. Checking the weather and sea conditions before you go to Foça noticeably affects how well the programme works out. ## Time table for the trip

The total day plan depends on how long you want to stay in Foça and on any additional stops. If you have a flight or an evening programme on the way back, say so at the start of your quote message.

Vehicle choice and quote

For small families or groups of friends, consider the Mercedes-Benz Vito VIP (approximately 1–6 passengers); for larger groups, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (approximately 10–16 passengers depending on the vehicle). Exact capacity and equipment are confirmed in the quote. The fare is communicated by written quote over WhatsApp before the journey, and the booking is confirmed once the quote is accepted. For an all-day trip of this kind, daily hire usually offers a more suitable structure; the area covered is stated in the quote.

It is also possible to combine the Foça trip with another route; for example, on the way back you can take a break on the road and add the direction of Bergama (Pergamon) or the city centre. However, since extra stops lengthen the total time, you need to write this clearly in the quote for the area covered and the extra-time conditions. If you want to return rested at the end of the trip, a simple plan with one direction and one main stop gives the most enjoyable result.

For group trips, it also helps to say in advance which items will travel in the vehicle (cool bag, beach equipment, children's items), so that the right vehicle class is chosen. A small backup plan is a good idea too: discuss from the start whether the trip could shift to indoor venues or the date be postponed if the weather turns. ## For your booking
